Vorwerk Group Takes Over LUX Asia Pacific

The Managing Partners of Vorwerk & Co. KG, Dr Jörg Mittelsten Scheid, Achim Schwanitz and Dr Walter Niggemann, are pleased to announce:The Wuppertal family enterprise Vorwerk has, with retroactive effect from 1 January 2001, taken over LUX Asia Pacific, the former direct-sales organisation of Electrolux in Asia, which operates sales companies in Australia, Indonesia, Japan, the Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam as well as having sales partners in Brunei, Hong Kong, Malaysia and New Zealand and a water-filter production plant in the Philippines. LUX Asia Pacific sells high-quality household appliances such as vacuum cleaners, water filters, air filters and washing machines and has displayed dynamic growth in recent years. The LUX brand enjoys an excellent reputation with consumers in Asia. LUX Asia Pacific is an autonomous unit of the Vorwerk group with headquarters in Singapore. The sales structures and products of LUX Asia Pacific will remain as they are. Kristian Borglin has been appointed Chief Executive Officer. The decision to take over LUX Asia Pacific was for Vorwerk an important step towards expanding the Vorwerk group’s position as the world’s biggest company selling high-quality products direct. Vorwerk is thus strengthening its strategic position in the fast-growing Asia Pacific market. The activities of Vorwerk’s own companies in China and Japan and of its distribution partners in other countries as well as of a production plant in China will continue as before. LUX Asia Pacific generates an annual turnover of approx 200 million marks (102 million euros) with 7,600 employees and sales advisers.

The Vorwerk group business volume amounted to some 3 billion marks (1.532 billion euros) in the year 2000. Vorwerk employs 14,000 staff worldwide as well as 24,000 sales advisers in the capacity of distribution partner.
