Wuppertal, 17 May 2001 - ”More than ever before, pursuing long-term goals with determination is the strength of our family business”, Dr. Jörg Mittelsten Scheid declared at the Vorwerk & Co. balance-sheet press conference held at the Industrieclub in Düsseldorf. The managing partner thus made it perfectly clear that Vorwerk holds an important advantage which market-listed companies do not: ”We do not need to allow ourselves to be forced by analysts’ criticism to take the short-term view.” As the world market leader in the direct sale of high-price products, Vorwerk’s faith in this distribution channel remains strong. Although turnover did fall slightly in the year 2000, the current figures are once again encouraging. Direct sales in Germany are clearly improving and continued international growth is assured, he continued.

”There is a great future in store for person-to-person communication, in other words, for consulting without time pressure”, said Dr. Mittelsten Scheid. ”The more anonymous the forms of trading become in e-commerce, the greater people’s need for personal contact will be.” Personal consulting in the home of the customer also offers a further advantage as it gives Vorwerk the opportunity to become acquainted with people’s wishes and to adjust to them. This also explains the new Vorwerk slogan: ”Our best for your family. ” This slogan reflects the way we see ourselves and our purpose.”
