A New Era Dawns for Direct Sales.



"We believe there are great opportunities for direct sales even in the age of the Internet," Dr. Jörg Mittelsten Scheid, managing partner of Vorwerk & Co. announced at the group’s balance-sheet press conference in Wuppertal. "In the age of globalization, where modes of trading are becoming increasingly anonymous, people actually feel a growing, rather than diminishing, desire for personal advice and service," Mittelsten Scheid observed.
In Mittelsten Scheid’s words, the Internet serves to complement direct selling. Already today, Vorwerk customers can book a hands-on demonstration electronically. "As a result, we have gained new target groups we were previously unable to reach via the door-to-door system," he continued.
Mittelsten Scheid’s general appraisal of the future development opportunities for direct sales is extremely positive: "In the past year alone, turnover of some 80 billion dollars was generated worldwide." This is why Vorwerk is continuing to concentrate on expanding its strong brand name in the house and home segment. This means not only that additions will be made to the existing product range, but that new products and systems will be introduced that could lead to an entirely new segment.
