Wuppertal, 26 February 2010 – The Vorwerk family enterprise and its subsidiary JAFRA Cosmetics International yesterday celebrated the official opening of a new JAFRA cosmetic production facility in Querétaro, Mexico. Vorwerk invested some 30 million US dollars (21.84 million euros) in the new facility, creating an important basis from which to implement JAFRA’s expansion plans. “Our JAFRA Cosmetics subsidiary has lived up to our expectations 100 percent with its direct sales of high-quality skin and body care, spa products, color cosmetics and fragrances. Our new facility in Querétaro gives us plenty of scope for our projected expansion and the capabilities not only to improve the quality of our products but also to offer our customers more reliable delivery,” says Walter Muyres, a Managing Partner of Vorwerk & Co. KG.
The area of the new production facility at the industrial park in Querétaro totals 95,000m², and buildings cover some 23,000m² of that space. This means that the new plant is 50 percent larger than its predecessor in Naucalpan, Mexico. “The facility is equipped with all the latest cosmetic production equipment and complies with our sustainable growth standards,” says Dr. Friedrich Kroos, JAFRA President and CEO. “Because we have so much space at our disposal, we can respond quickly to growing demand and have ample capacity to introduce new product lines when the time comes.” Annual output at the new plant can be increased to 190 million units. After less than a year of construction, the Querétaro plant is up and running with a workforce of 800 employees now producing JAFRA products to satisfy the constantly increasing demand in the 17 countries in which JAFRA cosmetics are sold.
In addition to the availability of further land for development coupled with improved production standards, the modern infrastructure, good power supply and secure environment of the modern industrial park also speak for the new location. The facility in Querétaro is located 190 kilometers north of Mexico City, which is also where the best-selling JAFRA Cosmetics subsidiary is based. The modern local infrastructure facilitates uncomplicated and speedy goods traffic, which means that gridlock on the roads and limited means of transportation and communication are now a thing of the past for JAFRA Cosmetics.
